Jesinta Franklin’s Mindfulness Tips to Help You Through the Holidays

Jesinta Franklin’s Mindfulness Tips to Help You Through the Holidays

The holidays are my favourite time of year, but let’s be honest, they can get overwhelming fast. Between gift shopping, family gatherings, and trying to make everything perfect, it’s easy to lose yourself in the chaos. Over the years, I’ve learned that staying mindful is the best way to enjoy the season without feeling like you’re running on empty.

Here are some little things I do to keep my head (and heart) in a good place during the holidays:

  1. Start the day with a heart focused on gratitude.

This one’s simple but so powerful. Every morning, I try to think of things I’m thankful for. It can be anything: the health of my family, a good night’s sleep, or even just the smell of my morning coffee. Starting my day this way keeps me grounded in what is important and reminds me to have joy in the little things.

  1. Bring it back to breathing when it becomes too much.

When things get hectic, I pause and take a few deep breaths. Seriously, it works wonders. Inhale slowly, hold it for a second, then exhale like you’re letting go of all the stress. It’s like hitting the reset button, even if just for a moment.

  1. Incorporate movement to keep grounded.

Sometimes, when my mind is spinning, moving my body helps me calm down. A quick walk outside or a short Pilates session on my Reformer can make all the difference. It’s not about working out; it’s about tuning in and letting my body release the tension.

  1. Trying to not aim for perfection.

I used to stress myself out trying to make everything Pinterest-perfect. Now, I focus on what really matters: spending time with loved ones and enjoying the season. Things don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

5. Take a quick break when you can.

At some point during the day, I try carve out 10 minutes for myself. I’ll make tea, sit outside, meditate, or just enjoy the quiet. It’s my little way of recharging before diving back into the holiday madness.

Ultimately, holidays are about connection, love, and joy—not perfection or stress. Practicing mindfulness helps me slow down and truly enjoy this magical time. So take a deep breath, let go of the pressure, and savour the moments that make this season so special.
